What's an ATC?

You create a small piece of art and trade it with other artists. I have been trading an ATC every month since February 2007. In return I receive an ATC from another listener from the CMP. I have ATCs from Germany, Florida, San Francisco...and they have mine.
These are the size of a business card (2.5" x 3")
Here is a couple of my latest ATC's for the CMP (Creative Mom Podcast), plus a few past favorites.
"Signs Connect Us In Time"
These two are for the September exchange....the theme is "Signs".
I used my sketches from the World Wide Sketchcrawl and printed out parts of them and made little collages.

This one was for fun....I made it for a friend's birthday!

Happy Birthday Fran!

"Mid Summer's Night Dream"

July ATC exchange based on Nick's dreaming while on the houseboat!

"Reach for the Stars"

May's ATC...everyone interprets the theme however they want to. It is fun to see the variety of art work from each person.

You can do whatever you want...collage, paint, embroidery

...just create!

Painting Girls!

Today was the first day the "Painting Girls" got together. We decided to meet on Thursdays from 10 am - 2 pm and paint together.

It is nice to have others I can work with and share ideas.

(WIP.....Righteous Redwoods #9/10)

I started working on #9 and #10 of the free form series. They are WIP (works in progress) and hopefully I can get them to where I like them.

Not happy yet...

We'll see...

After I paint the background in a free form style, I then use tracing paper to sketch out my flower design. That way I can play around with where I want the main flowers to be.

Then as seen above and below I start to work on the first layers of the painting. I have a ways to go with both the redwoods one above and the wildflower one below.

(WIP....#10/ 20 no name as of yet....just wildflowers)

Docent In Training

Yesterday, 2007.08.29, was the first day of my docent training for the de Saisset museum on the campus of Santa Clara University.

I had such a great time. This first training key point was...

What is a Museum?

Karen, the Assistent Director for Exhibitions, Education, and Community Outreach
explained museums as three-fold including

Collections
(storing and preserving artifacts)

Exhibitions
(showing both permanent and traveling collections)

Education Interpretations
(all the interactive aspects such as tours, docents, activities, community outreach)

We went on a behind the scenes tour of the museum.

Do you know what a "Preparator" is?
Well I met one named Ernest.
("One who prepares specimens or exhibits for scientific study or display, as in a museum.")
This person's job entails everything included in setting up displays for the exhibits,
from installing the art work, painting the walls to security displays to building platforms.

Jean, the Collections Manger, showed us around her work area. They have moving walls and racks where all the artifacts are stored. She is concerned with everything from pests, temperature, earthquakes, fires, loaning out materials and organization.

I have homework to get to for next week
....read the book, "The Ohlone Way", and chapters 1 and 2 of "Telling the Santa Clara Story"

The tour we give will include the Santa Clara Mission located on the campus. It is all about ART-HISTORY-KIDS

Next week....a history tour of the campus and learn about the Archeology Lab!
